Hello all,
New fish here.....I am about to obtain a slot loading iMac & I wanted
to put in a 7200 rpm HD. Will I run into any heating issues? Has anyone done
this before.

Hi Bobby and welcome!

I did *exactly* this to my beloved Snow iMac G3/700. I replaced the original whiny stock drive (a Hitachi 5400rpm 60GB) with a Western Digital 7200rpm, 8MB cache 120GB. The difference was immediate and noticeable, and the average temperature for the machine actually went DOWN. I leave my machine on most of the time and work the drives pretty hard, and can say with great confidence that over the past year or so since I did that, I've had NO problems as a result.

IOW, go for it!
