I have a 1.25GHz eMac that I've loaded up with 1GB of RAM. I've also replaced the internal drive with a 160GB 7200RPM drive with 8MB of buffer. The speed when compared to stock configuration is roughly about 1/3 faster. thats the speed with memory and hard drive. as for the DVD drive, there is not much past superdrive. And adding a drive via Fire Wire would not be as fast as adding a faster internal drive. Simply because the internal IDE port has more bus width, and can handle the data in less steps than the fire wire 400 on this machine.

Hi
I have a 1Ghz eMac with 512mb RAM, DVD/CDR and 40GB Hard drive.
I would like to upgrade it to its maximum. I know I can add two 512Mb RAMs.
I would really like to upgrade the hard drive and DVD drive.
Would it be cheaper to upgrade the internal HD or add another one via Firewire.
Also would it be better to replace the DVD/CDR drive for a DVDRW drive or add one
externally.
