It's sort of sad that there are so many people who resist following a few simple precautions before doing an update.
It's not strange though considering how Apple and everyone else bangs on about how simple and flawless the Mac OS is...
In Windows no such checks are required when updating (to the best of my knowledge/experience, though it's limited to W2K).
