Hello all,
I have an iMac DV G3 400mhz. How well does X.2 run on those things?
Should I max out my memory & put in a 7200 RPM Drive to make it run "better"
or should I stay away from X on this Machine.

10.2 will run okay on that machine -- IF you put 512MB or more of RAM into it.

10.3 will run a lot better, and 10.3.6 better still. You can get Panther for $60 or so from OWC or megamacs.com (it's a set of eMac CDs, but it *will* install on all Panther-compatible machines).

A lot of RAM plus a fast 7200RPM/8MB cache HD will really make a MARKED improvement on OS X's speed on such an old machine. Nothing you can do about the video card, sadly, but it's more than good enough for day-to-day use. I've got OS X on a Wallstreet 300MHz with 192MB of RAM and it runs reasonably well (no speed demon, but good for what I want it for, which is basic surfing, writing, et al.).
