So I thought it was fixed...maybe you are onto something here. I came home from work tonight to find it frozen again. The plug-pull trick worked, thanks. Funny thing is, it has been running 10.3 smoothly for over a month, wonder why this issue would crop up now? I don't *think* I have changed my configuration in any significant way.

There is a problem with the power management in (at least some) iMacs. The harddisk goes to sleep and never wakes up. This causes the freeze. Reset doesn't clear it. You need to pull the power cord out, wait 10 seconds then plug it in again and re-boot.

Odds are it was waking up (or trying to) at 2AM to run maintenance tasks.
