Whoa, we may want to define "good" before declaring
the goodest. If you want to buy a computer from a
non-threatening retail environment, bring it home,
plug it in and start whipping together home videos,
slicing and dicing digital photos, and maybe even
goofing around with music composition and all the
while do emails, IM, surfing etc., without having to
worry about keeping track of software upgrades, then
the Mac looks big heap good. Maybe one could say that
if you value your time over your money, then the Mac
is "good."

If you want to spend time assembling a beige box,
hunting around the internet for drivers, patches,
workarounds and obscure unsupported hardware and
software, and all the while playing sysadmin - but all
for virtually no money - then you value your money
over your time and the Linux solution clearly is
"good."

Ouch, we may want to distinguish between features and
bloat. Would you consider the ability to banish
red-eye from a dozen photos with a single keystroke to
be "bloat" or an "enhanced feature?" How about the
ability to "save as .pdf" built right in? Or burning
CD/DVD's natively from any number of applications?
One man's bloat may be another's lifesaver. I'm not
sure it is fair for a childless couple in a Porsche to
cast aspersions upon the large family next door in
their minvan.

Ditto - and please forgive the gross exaggeration...
