I know there are many wireless options out there, but I'd like to know, what is the cheapest and/or easiest method to put an old slot loading iMac on a wireless network?
The iMac in question is:
Graphite iMac DV SE
400 mHz G3
256 MB RAM
OS X 10.3

I realize that there are airports cards still out there, but they aren't exactly reliable from what I've heard (they burn out) and are now overpriced due to the shortage of them.

I've never heard of any particular reliability problem. I've not encountered any bad ones (out of maybe 6 units).

The prices seem to be dropping, the initial jump in prices seems to have ended and I've seen them for less than the original Apple price.

Alternatives are either a USB to Wireless adapter or a Wired Ethernet to Wireless bridge device. All run around about the same price.
