Do you have the iMac next to any other electronic/electric devices? Also, have you tried to degauss the monitor? Sounds like a magnetics thing to me, but I could be wrong. My iMac did something similar for a while, went away after I moved the speakers that were by it.
My advice: move any appliances or electronic/electric devices that are near it. It may take a couple days for it to go away.

Hello and happy new year to all! By perusing this list daily, and without further assistance or tech talk, I have handled all questions or few problems that arose with my i-mac for 4 years. I couldn't manage without this list so I thank all of you.

This new problem I can't seem to find an answer to although I know it has been addressed a number of times over the years on the list. Can't find it in the archives or on Apple sites.

I called CompUSA and the tech said it could be analog board or something else, probably expensive like $400, BUT they charge $100 just to diagnose!

My question: Is this something that will only get worse and cause major repair? And what is it? I was planning to try and keep up with you guys by adding more memory and upgrade. I received a Panther upgrade for Xmas; but will return unopened Panther to Amazon if, as I suspect, this machine is on its last leg. A new machine would include these.

Thanks very much,

Joy
