Probably. It might be some new (and magnatised) item you've left near the left side of your machine for too long, but if it's not that, then it's definitely the slow phosphor death of the monitor.
I was planning to try and keep up with you guys by
adding more memory and upgrade. I received a Panther upgrade for Xmas; but
will return unopened Panther to Amazon if, as I suspect, this machine is on
its last leg. A new machine would include these.
My guess would be that the video (actually sounds like a problem with the tube itself rather than the video card for a change) is slowly going, so yeah I'd probably ship that Panther back to Amazon and use the money as a down payment on an eMac. You won't believe the difference.
