Just hooked up a new Lexmark x2250 All-In-One to my 450mhz Sage iMac. This
is the first time I've experienced faxing with Panther, and though it works,
I'm not delighted. There's no fax log - no indication of sent/received
faxes, no clue to verify a successful sent fax.

Is there some cheap/free software out there to improve my faxing experience?

Kathy K

Kathy,

I'm sending a quick note to tell you that I am sending/receiving faxes from my iMac 400DV. The faxes go to a folder which I've placed on my desktop as well as to a designated printer. If the printer is disconnected when faxes come in, it will print them automatically later when the designated printer is reconnected. I will post again when I find how I did this, since it was over a year ago. This is all taking place with no additional software other than what comes with Panther. My iMac is connected 24/7 to a phone line for faxes and to Ethernet DSL for surfing/email.

My default printer, an HP LaserJet 1200, does not always print faxes. Some faxes create a plug in the pipeline and mess printing up altogether. So in faxing preferences, I designated my Canon S800 (inkjet) as the fax designated printer. Everything works effortlessly.

I'll send more info when I find that log, preferences, etc.

O.k. - In "Finder" mode, I went to "Help" and typed "fax" in the search field. The third option was "setting up your Mac to receive faxes". There are a whole series of options that should get you going. Item #6 gives you the option to set up a specific folder for incoming faxes. I've placed mine on my desktop.

Regarding an outgoing phone log, I found this through google:

I don't know if I've been to this site before, but it is what came up in google.

Hope that helps a little,
Claire
