The iMac was free, and the Harmoni w/Firewire upgrade, 256K ram, and 15 gig hard drive was less than $100, total.

Well, that makes a lot more sense, but I think you give people the (VERY) false impression that this is normal. How you got all those supplies for less than $100 I don't know, but that's far from typical. In your case, I absolutely agree that your upgrade was a better idea than a new machine, but typically those parts you mention would cost much closer to $400 than $100 and so at normal selling prices, looking to a Mac mini or eMac is a far better idea.
