It's the hard drive, 100%. You can check it by putting your Mac to sleep, and hard drive too, it's in energy saver, put the hard disk to sleep when possible. when iMac sleeps the disk will too and it will be quiet, when you wake it up it will start buzzing. I had SAME problem :) I replaced the drive and now it's quiet.
