Dennis: We use Canopy to connect our main building with three other buildings across the street (up to 1700 feet from the main building). The antenna, or "subscriber module", is small and unobtrusive. We have them mounted on the face of the buildings, and they are barely noticable. Our access point is mounted about 60 feet up on our radio tower, so it has good "line of sight" with the subscriber modules.
Performance is very good. We are using Canopy to share a T1 line for internet use, as well as providing an internal network between the buildings. File transfer speeds are very good, and internet speed feels the same as if you were in the main building. Reliability has been good as well. The system provides a good base level of performance, even before "tweaking" all the settings. The only problem we have experienced is with a point-of-sale database application (RecTrac, using the Progress database. Small point-of-sale transactions were excessively slow (15-20 seconds over the Canopy, compared to 1-2 seconds over CAT5). We think most of the problem is in the software, as they sent us an update that cut the time in half, but is still too slow. In any case, the database and Canopy interact in some way we haven't figured out yet. Hope this help. Wade Dunham On Wed, 30 Mar 2005 06:38:14 -0800, Dennis B.
