I have been doing just this with an extensive collection of VHS stuff. It has worked well by using a Hollywood Dazzle AV bridge connected to my G4 (now G5) iMac via Firewire. iMovie recognized the AV bridge as a camera source, I plugged the VCR out to the AV bridge in, hit Play on the VCR and Import in iMovie. After the movie has been captured by iMovie, usually a process I let run as I go to bed, I edit it quickly, dumping a bunch of dead air clips that where captured when the movie ran out and the Mac continued to import. ( I am not creating a new movie here, just transferring the show to DVD)
With iMovie 3, it was exported to quicktime for iDVD to burn. With iMovie 4, things became much simpler, just the punch of a button began the whole export process. iMovie 5 is too sweet for words.

The whole process is time consuming as iDVD has to render the iMovie to the correct format and then burn it. I find it best to start the process either before going to work or bed and finishing it off when I get back to the system. Works so far.

Hope this helps,
Mickey

Hi

I have an eMac running 10.3.8 and want to convert some old VHS and some camcorder stuff onto DVD. How can I capture this on my Mac ready to burn to DVD.
