Jim, List
Apologies for replying to my own email: I just re-read my reply and realised
where I think you are going wrong. To set the password in netinfo, you have to
be running the netinfo management application. (In the macobserver page, they
achieve this by running: niutil -list . /users .
For you (if you know the name of the user that you want to mdify, I think that
you can just use 'nicl .'at the root prompt. (I'm not infront of a Mac at the
moment, so can't check)
Then, type 'list /Users' if you want to see which users you have available, and
'passwd user' to modify their password.

This is not the way to go about it. If you are in terminal (i.e. booted, you
don't need to do the mount and systemstarter steps because they are
accomplished by booting the system. If you followed the steps in my previous
email (apologies again :-), you can prefix 'passwd user' with the command
'sudo' thus: 'sudo passwd user'. You will be prompted for a password (which is
that belonging to the account whose privs you elevated) and should be able to
change the password.

Cheers,
Tim (who promises not to be so trigger happy with his next reply)
