Hi I have bought a Pioneer DVR-109 DVDRW drive and it has arrived this morning. I am going to replace my stock DVDROM/CDRW drive in my eMac and have downloaded a take-apart guide but would like to know any additional information or tips before I do this.
Has anyone does this successfully? I have heard that the optical drive is easy to replace. A few questions: 1. What do I set the new drive up as MASTER or SLAVE? I know that the eMac has a primary and secondary IDE slots and that it has one drive per slot so I was thinking technically it shouldn't matter - but I dont want to have to undo my Mac again so I want to get it right first time. 2. Will I be able to boot from the new drive or do I have to do anything special to it. 3. I have to update the firmware on the drive on a PC to add the new dual layer thing, if I do this will it still work on my Mac as Roxio Popcorn now supports dual layer burning.
