Hi all
A friend wanted me to check over her original Bondi blue iMac before she handed it over to her son. She said that all was well except that the cursor would lose function every 20 minutes or so. It didn't freeze, because you could move it around the screen; it just didn't do anything when you clicked the mouse. If you waited 15 seconds or so, all was well again.
Mystified I asked the usual questions about rebuilding the desktop and zapping the PRAM.
She'd done the former but not the latter.
Not seeing how it could help, I zapped the PRAM as routine check.
When the computer came back on, there was a series of sharp electrical cracking sounds and the screen shimmered.
I shut it off, blew some canned air through the vents to clear unwanted dust and started it again. After one or two more cracking noise, the computer went dead.

Questions:
1. Is there any connection between the original mouse problem and the iMac's death?
2. Is there any connection between zapping the PRAM and the iMac's death?
3. I'm assuming the power supply has given out. Given the age of the machine, is it
worth fixing?
The strange thing is that in the last 2 years, this machine was probably used no more than 2 hours.

TIA for any and all help.
