Nice to see you know how to bottom post, unfortunately Apple Mail doesn't so I'm top posting your answer. Normally I use Pine but not on this machine. Also sorry about the delay in answering but Apple mail flagged the message as junk and I just saw it.
A straight install of any Linux distribution is full of major holes. One reason is because there are multiple installs, such as desktop, network server, Mail server, FTP server etc. Each needs to have it's security set differently. However once in place it will beat windoze hands down. Here is one recent example. Last week the Sober.P virus was accounting for one in twenty emails being sent over the net. it even infected at least one main MSN server at hotmail. At my work we run nothing but Sparcs running a modified distribution of RedHat Linux. None of our machines were under any threat but we were forced to block Hotmail again because our server was being inundated with messages containing the virus it slowed our incoming server to a crawl. Another hint is the amount of Microsoft management that uses our service for secure email and other functions.

You may be right about the widgets. Personally except for the 64 bit compatibility I have no reason to run 10.4 at this time. Also being a avid subscriber to 2600 and the hacking community I've already seen some pro-to type development in Java and Apple multi media access that would raise major concerns. Me thinks Apple is going too fast in modifying the BSD kernel the way they are doing.
Still, I really like the hardware but would have no qualm about switching over to Linux which I already run on a iMac G3 DV 400 and runs vastly superior to OS 9 or OS X on it.

This may be a little off topic. But I read in Mac world recently that Linux actually ranks lower than Windows as far as security. I admit that I am just a computer novice, but I was pretty surprised to read that. As an avid Linux user, does that sound right to you? I have been wondering about it for a while now.
Thanks,
Kevin
