I agree- the scroll wheel is a definite bonus, and something I prefer
to not go without. Luckily, I primarily use an iBook, so I can
install iScroll and use the trackpad to scroll.
As for mice, I wanted a bluetooth mouse, so I went out and got a
thermaltake bluetooth notebook mouse. It's tiny, but that's what I
want for when I'm on the go. It has two buttons and a scroll wheel.
Just the same, as elegant as the apple mouse is, I don't really want
to have to buy a second mouse, then figure out what to do with the
first one when I buy a computer.
I guess I can understand the tech side re: people not capable of
learning to use multiple buttons, but still, why not offer a
multibutton mouse for those of us who can handle it? As for
destroying a third party product maker- Apple doesn't need to make
them themselves. They could always outsource to one of the third
party manufacturers, or a couple if need be.

However, I feel they really should develop a "power user" mouse as an
option. The current design of having the whole mouse as a button is
annoying to me, as anytime I relax my wrist, I accidentally click on
something I didn't mean to. Also, if I want a pop-up contextual
menu, then
I have to pull out the keyboard and use my other hand to hold the
control
key, or go all the way up to the menus and fumble around looking for a
particular function (which always seems to be in different
locations in
different apps) or try to memorize the keyboard combinations -
which often
require two hands to accomplish. On my PC mouse at work, I can
relax my
hand without fear of clicking something I didn't want, often not
needing to
use any keys on the keyboard, leaving my other hand free to answer the
phone, etc. I've also gotten quite used to the scroll wheel, and
find it
very convenient. I frequently find myself fingering the top of the
Mac
mouse trying to use the scroll wheel rather than go over to the scroll
bars/buttons in a window.
My question is, are there any USB mice available that have the two
buttons
and scroll wheel that are also Mac-compatible? (Sorry if this
question was
already asked and answered. I came in in the middle of this thread.)
