I'm not a gambling man anyway, but I certainly wouldn't put money on
Classic surviving the transition. I'd be more likely to bet on the
triumphant return of Clarus the Dogcow.

What's more, you're probably right.
As I've said elsewhere, this fact (if true) shouldn't upset very many
people really. You can still go out and buy NEW Classic-supporting
hardware up to the end of 2007 (and possibly beyond), and "remainder"
PPC Macs for probably a decade following that, and of course run them
for long periods of time after that -- meaning Classic will probably
fall into complete disuse sometime around the time I retire in the
mid-2020s.
I seriously doubt we'll miss it much then.
