First of all, I want to thank you all for the help I've been getting. I am happy to have joined a list of such helpful and friendly people. However, I've read so many posts that I am a little confused. Regarding installing X, I got conflicting information, or it appears so (see below). Please someone explain to me what should I do:

You don't need to do this [erase the HD]. Just install OS X. Don't bother removing the
old stuff first, and don't bother partioning the drive.

Your iMac will require two partitions- one for OS 9 and OS X.

I don't know who wrote this:
Both 9 and X must remain within that first 8 gig partition.
 The ROM won't recognize that an OS is installed if it (or any parts of it)

The computer is an iMac G3/400;
10GB HD;
384RAM;
OS 9.2.1.
