Those are indeed disk images.
If there is no Installer app in the disk image, just drag the
application's icon to your Applications folder to install it. you can
then drag the disk image to the trash to "eject" the image.

Don't forget you can use the File>Eject menu, the Finder window Eject
button, or my favorite, the contextual right mouse button menu. Not
being a "9-er", I'd forgotten about using the Trash. ;)
