Well I've been following this thread all weekend and
finally decided to throw my two cents in.

I use X on any machine I have that was designed for it
to work on. Obviously my PB 3400 is on 9.1, but my
Bondi iMac/333 is 10.3.9 and my Blueberry iMac/350
is on 10.2.8 which completes my home computers.

As far as why I use 9 since that is what this thread
is about. I will probably always stick with a PB 3400
for my personal at home machine because I *can't* put
X on it.... or at least without using XPostFacto which
I won't do.. she can't handle it.

I will keep my PB3400 and continue using 9.1 forever
probably because I can't afford to upgrade all my
personally owned software to X versions and I'm kind
of anal I guess. I keep my computers 100% legit.

I run/work at a print shop and have all X on all my
machines there other than one PM 9500 print server
that will never upgrade because the driver that it
runs (Heidelberg QuickRip 5.1) will never be
upgraded, but it runs like a champ and just needs to
have TechTool run on it about twice a year.

I have all the up to date X versions of everything at
work and really love InDesign CS. One of my many
hats is digital prepress and I can tell the difference
between 9 and X workflow. I used to lose 2 or 3 hours
a week fixing problems that other peoples fonts and
corrupt files used to cause with my computers. Now I
very seldom launch Classic on my work machines unless
someone used some stupid truetype font that X just
won't recognize. Funny that it recognizes Windows
truetypes but not some of the late 80's and early 90's
crap mac truetype fonts that some designers still use
and don't convert to paths.... but I digress..

I boot my personal iMacs into 9 for one reason.....
Unreal Tournament.

I won't upgrade my PB 3400 to a X capable computer
because I still use Adobe Dimensions 2.0, Illustrator
6.0, Photohop 5.5, ImageStyler 1.0, Acrobat 4.0,
PageMill 3.0, InDesign 1.5, ATM Deluxe 4.6 and
Freehand 8.

Now the print shop owns its own license numbers for
all the newest software but all that older stuff is
stuff that I bought over the years to use when doing
on the side work, so every dollar spent on that
software represents time I spent working at night
rather than spending time with my family to pay for it
and I can't see upgrading it when I can still do just
about anything with my older software than anyone can
do with the newest stuff and my little PB 3400 is rock
solid. Of course I have to force quit a browser
every so often but I expect it and I'm not in as much
of a hurry with my on the side work that I do on
occasion so don't need a G4 or G5 powerhouse.. I mean
heck... getting paid by the hour on the on the side
stuff... salaried at work :D

Ok there's my two cents.
