Hi All,

I was given an iMac/266, Blueberry that had a, supposedly, bad CD-Rom drive.
Other than not reading CD's the iMac worked perfectly. I pulled the
motherboard tray to see if I could repair/replace the CD-Rom. Having the
information I needed, I replaced the tray and the iMac refuses to start up.
(All indications of a flyback transformer failure.)
By connecting an external Mac monitor, the Mac starts right up and
amazingly, the CD-Rom seems to be just fine now.

Questions:
Can the flyback fail without warning?
Could I have done something in removing the motherboard?
The PRAM battery seems to be very weak or dead. Can this be part of the
problem?

I have an old peecee case and a lot of tools, but I'm tired of boring beige
cases. I'd love to bring this iMac back to life in its original housing.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Amanda
