I posted my problem (losing monitor and chooser settings) on the 'fritter
site and a gentlemen said to "unplug" the mac for a while and than plug it
back in. If my date was off than that proves it is the pram battery.

I unplugged it overnight and this morning the date said Friday, January 1st,
'04. Yeh!!!

I didn't realize the mac had to be unplugged to show symptoms of a dying
pram battery.

Case solved!

Thanks for the input.

Ref. MaxTek's problems with the monitor settings:

I had the same problem early on with my iMac 350 Blueberry.
When I would start up the puter, my monitor settings would be
all cattywampus - background not filling screen, slightly off-center,
etc. Really bugged me (pun intentional).

Luckily, my iMac was under extended warranty, so I ran it down
to my local Mac tech. He replaced the power/analog/video board,
and everything returned to my normal settings. For a while ...

A month later, I had it back in the shop for the same thing. Tech
replaced the same board, and everything worked fine again. For a while ...

I finally got tired of carting up the iMac and figured I would have to live
with the screwy settings every time I started or re-started the booger.
But alas, something changed: When first starting up, the settings are
discomboomerated, but after a few minutes of warm-up(?), all settings
return to what I have specified. So, something in the box has to get a
little heat on it to come up to speed, eh? FYI, I've been living with this
problem since 2001 ...

Tech said that these boards go out often, and he has replaced numerous
ones over the years. If you have a warranty on your machine, take it in
for a replacement board. If you're way out of warranty, you can probably
find a board somewhere and do it yourself, but me thinks the board is
going to cost you plenty.

Hope this bit of info helps you out in some small way.

Bill
