Does the system BONG when you first hit the boot button? Or does it

Have you tried zapping the PRAM (boot while holding down cmd-opt-P-R)?
one time worked with 10.3.2 startup disc. ran disc first aid but
advised of problems. node issue. attempt norton system works. wont
run.
A "node issue" means there is a corruption in the file system index
files on your HD. Could be a soft (data) error, but could also be
indicative of a hardware failure.
called apple. spoke with tech. after hours of attempts. diff stuff.
even. pmu button. nothing. spec is that it could be ram or mother
board problem.
any advice. referrals for repairs. parts.
The tech could be right. But a few things to try first... Make these
changes, then try booting from the OS X CD. Stop when something
works but don't undo the previous until something works...
Replace the PRAM battery then reset the PMU then zap the PRAM.
In that order. :)
Try elminating the HD. Just unplug the cables going to it. ...That
node error, I'm thinking maybe it's in the higher inode structure,
which could be giving the system problems early in the mount.
Try reseating the DIMMs.
Try removing one DIMM or the other (if you have more than one, of course. :)
