Hi,

I've rescued three iMac 350s from my school district's surplus heap and was given permission to fix them up (on my own time and my own budget of course) and to loan them to any of my low-income students who do not have any computer at home. I've discovered a problem with the CD drive, and I'm hoping someone could help me with some information.

The CD drive will accept a CD into the drive, but the CD does not mount -- no icon is shown on the desktop. I have to use a paper clip to eject the CD. System CDs will not boot. The odd thing is this: Each drive at least one time while I was working on them did mount the CD icon, but now none of them do.

I've replaced the dead PRAM battery on each and was in the process of upgrading to 9.2.2 with original System CDs for each according to directions when the CD problems became permanent.

Thinking it might just be a bad drive, I replaced the CD drive on one computer with a known good drive with the same results.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom Thorleifson
