Hello again,

I posted yesterday about the disappearing Document folder in the Finder sidebar. Today, two more things hage gone from my not to trouble free iMac...

First the "X Help" that you get from the menubar. You give the command and a blank window appears. Click on the home icon and the X help options now appears (what's new, troubleshooting, index) but clicking on the link gets you nowhere. Every other library from the Library menu gets you to where it's supposed to and the links work fine. Seems that the only help Tiger won't give is the X help! It did the same one month ago with Panther 10.3.9

Then, no search result whatsoever from the Finder. Enter a string in the search window à la Google and...nothing! The small spinning wheel (not the beachball) spins and spins out of control.

To be frank, this iMac 1.8 ghz mesmerizes me. Noisy fans, hot screen, hot back, this works, that doesn't. 4 kernel panics since. In fact, a lot of small irritating things that makes my experience with it not so great. I was expecting a lot more stability from X and and this fabulous white iMac. For the first time in my life, I am disappointed with an Apple product and I am starting to think I wont keep this one more than one year. Some thing tells me it's not as reliable as a faithfull G4.Hints or opinions?

Thanks to help me again. There are weeks like that...

I had this happen too when I first got my eMac at work and was running Panther. I had to re install the system for the Help to be fully functional. Now I have a 20 in. iMac running Tiger at home and the Help in iMovie is doing the same thing. I still haven't got my address book working, but have gone back to Eudora, so that may not be a cure I'll bother with. I've used Macs since 1987 and can't say I'm staggered with the reliability of OS X yet. I like iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, etc. but miss the window shade feature, the warning showing how much is in your trash before you empty it (can't tell you how many times that saved my bacon), and the fact that my printer and scanner aren't supported. Well my printer has a gimp print solution, but I can't adjust the settings for anything. Since I paid the extra for AppleCare, perhaps it's time I got on the phone. Oh, and that's another thing - AppleCare is shown as starting on May 15 and I didn't receive my iMac until May 20. Well, I'm retired now, so I can spend my time being one of those crochety people I used to complain about.
