Hey,
I just set up my Daughter with her own account in Tiger. I
have all the iTunes song files on a new external Firewire HD. In
both accounts, I have the HD as the storage folder for all music. I
opened iTunes in my daughter's account and the Library was empty. I
proceeded to "add to Library" from File menu and chose the music
folder on the new HD. It added all the songs fine. Now, when I try
to use iTunes in My Account, I get the exclamation point and a pop up
saying "The song 'X' could not be used because the original file
could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
If I choose yes, finder pops up and you have to choose the correct
artist, album and song from the file list on the new HD. At that
point, both accounts can play the song.
Now, when I go back to My Account, if I try to add songs to library,
it duplicates all the songs in my library when it processes the songs
from the HD. In an attempt to circumvent this, I tried to clear the
songs from the library without success. i could highlight the song
but the option to "clear" the song from the library is not available,
it is grayed out. My intent was to clear the songs from library
without deleting the song file and then add them all back to the
library on My Account. Thereby, making all songs available to all
accounts.
Where have I gone wrong.
