For the record, I bought that same model at about the same time you did, used it for a year, then sold it to a friend when I moved up to the 12" Powerbook. The thing never had a problem at all until it recently had to go in for the old logic board repair. That much is to be expected I suppose, since they discovered a flaw in the logic board design. Evrything else has been fine, though.

I assume those on the iMac list also read the Canadian

My G3 iBook is taking longer and longer to start up from
start; a restart replicates the same result.

Have done a DiskWarrior update with no change.

Did a full hard drive backup July 16, just in case.

The G3 iBook was purchased new April 2003.
800 Mhz, 128 + 512 SDRAM

The machine has consumed
three hard drives, two logic boards,
two screens, one battery during this time,
two disc drives, oh and one keyboard as well.

All under warranty.

Looks like the hard drive may be going for another dump
as this has happened before.

The Toshiba drive is NOT full! It is partitioned into two equal portions
of 13.67 gig each, one partition holding OS9.2, the other with
OS 10.3.9.

Just checked the OS9.2 portion has 10 gig free, the OSX portion 9
gig free. I don't use much of the hard drive; sort of use it and if
not needed

My question then...is this typical of Apple designed product?
That is, component failures of this magnitude?
Are these failures illustrative of laptops, in general?

And does the other side have similar problems with their
laptops ie Toshiba/Sony/HP-Compag and their ilk?

Usage factor, the computer is on, functioning in use
for my writings about eight-ten hours a day, or more.
There is adequate ventilation in the air-conditioned work area.

Ideas/Comments?
