Was the ability actually discontinued, or did Apple simply remove the power key from the keyboard?
I'd not be the least bit surprised if you plugged in a keyboard with a power key, that it powers on even the latest Mac models (I'd also not be surprised if it doesn't). a keyboard with a power key will boot my G3 DV400.
