after i installed the new drive and ram, i started with installing
the original system software (os8.1), that's the only one i have
the complete system install disk for. after that i have all the
upgrades.
the new drive shows up on the desktop (i partitioned it), i can see
the system in there when i open it, and i also can see the drive in
the startup disk dialog. it will let me select it as the startup
disk but it just won't start up.
am i forgetting something?

Are you sure you installed the system software on the new drive?
And if you did. Have you selected the new drive as the startup drive?
Might help by telling us what OS you installed on the machine.
