hello

if you're mac has an extra vga-video-port try connecting an external monito... and replace the internal HD or boot from a firewire drive with os9 installed... (osx needs an updated firmware on most imacs, and you're not sure if the firmware has been updated...)

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a iMac DV which was described as having a hard drive problem. When turned on, the video never comes up, and the hard drive makes a series of whining and clicking noises. The only way to get anything to appear on the screen is to depress the power switch on the front (which causes the screen with the flashing '?' disk icon to come up for a split second, then shrink to a dim grey rectangle), then depress the power switch on the front again, which then brings up a frozen image of the flashing '?' disk icon, after which the hard drive stops making whining/clicking noises, and the whole thing locks up. Basic key combinations appear to work (though they occasionally turn the computer off for some weird reason); I have zapped the PRAM multiple times, and was seemingly able to blind-type commands into Open Firmware (it resets after typing 'reset-all'), but still no video. I attempted to boot from a CD meant for the PowerMac G4, to see what it would do; I hear the CD being accessed for a few minutes, then nothing. Pulling the PRAM battery for an hour had no effect. Might this thing be fixable? Thanks in advance.
