Heh? I replaced the stock drive in an iMac 400 DV with a 160 G Maxtor.
Don't understand what you mean about the cable. All I did was unplug and remove the old drive, insert the new one and plug it into the same cable. Works.

And generally it's a good idea to go for a 160 Gb drive. I know the iMac can't see the whole thing, but then at least you get as much as it can (about 130 if I remember right). If you buy a 120 G drive you get less than you could (after formatting), and the prices I've seen are about the same for 120 or 160.
