What sort of printer are you using? Or more importantly, does it have
OS X drivers?
I run a G5 iMac and have an older Epson printer. Since there are no
"native" drivers available for it, I've been using the Gimp print
capability that came with the machine.
I have found that if the Classic environment is running, printing is
a headache, so I always force quit it before printing.
It still screws up occasionally, but doesn't tie up my machine for ages.
My theory is that the old system 9 drivers may be buried in the junk
that I transferred from my old iMac, and that the computer is faced
with terminal indecision trying to decide which drivers to use.
Not scientific, but there you are.
