Ok, I wasn't sure if the screws made contact with another part in the computer to prevent something from happening (My first DV :-P )

Thanks,

Hey...

Is it ok if I run my iMac DV SE with two of the EMI shield screws missing?

They've fallen in the space between my workbench and can not get them out.

If not, can I purchase them from a hardware store?

Thanks,
Ian

If you use screws in the top 2 and bottom 2 locations, you shouldn't have any problems as the shield isn't going anywhere with 4 screws in it in those locations. On the other hand, you should be able to find a close match in any hardware store with a good selection. Just take one of the screws with you and match it as close as possible in thread pitch and overall length.

Nope, the only function of the screws is to hold the shield firmly to the perforated aluminum divider panel. Four screws is enough, though all six make sure of maximum contact. The only thing I can think of that might be affected if "maximum contact" is not obtained is a slight reduction in the performance of the EMI shield as an auxiliary heat sink. But I've run iMac DV SEs for hours on my test bench without that shield with no noticeable increase in temperatures. And I've worked on at least one DV SE that had no screws in the EMI shield, and it was running fine. So relax and enjoy your first DV.
