Don't buy a Dell. i got a Dell laptop to play some games not
available on Mac. It has not worked properly since I got it. Very
poor customer service in some foreign country. Sent it back for
repairs, Came back - still not working. No comparison to a Mac. Tom

I got in today's mail Dell's low-end computer catalog. The show
piece desktop model, the Dimension 3000, is hailing for about $499
to $599 incuding monitor.
I tried to contact Dell through their 'Live Chat' but all presales
folks were busy. But I see the values of having Apple versus PC
just from inspection.
The ad sells the basic computer (hopefully the keyboard and
mouse,too) for the rock bottom price of $499. You need to cough-up
another $100 for the flat-panel, 17 inch monitor. No where does it
mention having a modem, which I would think is pretty well standard
today. No where does it mention the software it comes with; that
is Microsoft Office or similiar. It does offer Windows XP for
home / office.
The styling is very nice. (Looks like a new Toyota or Nissan) and
they offer 48X CD Burner, a 80G Hard Drive, 256MD Shared DDR SDRAM
and and Intel Pentium 4. The eMac offers most of that in their
standard $799 price with no throw-ins or gimmicks. What's more, we
got Dell's in my office about three months ago. While some
software's run faster, it's been disapointment-cit since. (But one
might argue that's the software and not the hardware.) Yet while
the world reeks from the latest computer viruses, my experiences
with Mac's is that they're pretty much virus free.
