I do not use FileVault for fear of a universal problem. Data is =20
encrypted in one big block. The data files are not individually =20
encrypted. The only safety mechanism I know of from reading David =20
Pogue's The Missing Manual is to have at least two accounts on the =20
Mac. The Administrator's account and a User's account. In the =20
user's account, one can run FileVault, with the password precaution
=20=
that you mention. The Administrator can access the user's data by =20
using a special "Master" password. If you set up your Mac this =20
way, try using the Administrator's Master password from the =20
Administrator's account. If not, or if the Master PW does not =20
work, I know of no solution.
I have several accounts, no prob at this level. My concern is not =20
password related: my Mac boots fine
but refuses to mount the image that appears as damaged. I do not even
=20=
have a chance to supply
my password (or admin pass) because the mount process does not reach
=20
that step.
That's why I am looking for a recover prog that's compatible with
Tiger.
This makes it seem possible that the problem is outside of FileVault;
if so, perhaps using the latest version of DiskWarrior will fix it.
Otherwise, I can only suggest presenting the problem to a couple other
