I've got problem with an emac. It won't startup. I've pressed the
cuda button, taken out the pram battery and let it stand unplugged
over night, unhooked the hard drive, and taken out one memory stick,
then the other. I always get the same symptoms. When I press the
power button, the fan will come on, the light on the mother board will
come on, sometimes (but not always) the chime will sound and if the
hard drive is connected, you can hear a little hum that sounds like
maybe the hard drive is spinning a little, but it doesn't sound like
normal and doesn't continue the hard drive sound of a normal boot
process and I never see anything on the screen. Moreover, the machine
doesn't seem responsive to the keyboard. At least I can't reset the
parameter ram or get into open firmware.
I'm going to go ahead and buy a new battery, but I'm thinking it's
motherboard. This machine was working fine one day and the next day it
wouldn't start. Anybody have any other suggestions or things to try?
