If you are running any version of OSX, whatever you do: DO NOT EVER USE
NORTON UTILITIES!!!
That will in all likelyhood permanently scramble the contents of your
drive!
Despite whatever Symantec might say.
This is well-known on the net.
Find another mac and try to start it up in firewire
target mode. This will let you know if you can mount
the disk. If you can then run Norton or Disk Warrior
on it. Fix everything it tells you to and then run
disk utility on and fix permissions. Then see if you
can start it.
