hello foks,
I've tried to bring my brother's 350 MHz slot-loading iMac up to
scratch and
install Panther on it on one of 2 partitions of the 40 GB HD. I've put
in a
512 MB crucial RAM stick to add to the original 64 MB.
I have installed X.2.8, the version below Panther on my 350. It was no
problem to install with the commercial CD. With 640mbs of Ram it is
pretty snappy.
Even more baffling is the fact that it showed the same behaviour when I
tried to boot it from an OS 9.2.2 clone that I have used to starup
several
Macs with (all portables, in all truth).
This probably the trouble, you are using a CD from a later or different
Mac, and the older 350 can't recognize it. If you can beg borrow or buy
a commercial 'good for any Mac' disk and try it.
