I have lists of error codes, but I can't find any that list the -4XX codes. I've been getting the -412 recently when I try to copy files from the internal drive to the external Firewire HD. "The item 'xxxxxx' cannot be written, because an error of type -412 occurred. Do you wish to continue?" I've run Disk Warrior followed by Norton Utilities on both drives four times now, and while that works for a while, within a day or two I'll get the -412 again, no matter what file in what format or what size I try to copy. Sometimes just rebuilding the desktop helps clear up the problem for a while, but not always. I was going to reinstall the system, then I noticed that with it booted to the OS9 install CD #1, I was still getting the error.
Any ideas? Could this be a Firewire hardware glitch? DW and NU found major problems with both drives at first, but now they scan ok. It would help diagnose the problem if I had any idea what a -412 translates to. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
