How hard is it to crack a G4 iMac? I have a G4 iMac that sometimes

I see the this take-apart documentation: <link snipped>

For what purpose are you taking this apart? If it's "just for a look to see if there's anything wrong", then you most certainly should not be attempting this... If you have a new HDD, or other components to replace what's in there already, go ahead.

I'm taking it apart to try to repair it - note in my original post where I said it doesn't boot anymore. Since it passed the Apple Hardware Test the one time I did get it to boot, I figure either the PRAM battery is dead, or the power supply is shot.

Anybody have any experience here? What's the worst that could
happen? I'm guessing the worst that could happen is that I'd have to
pay someone to put it back together.

I imagine that the worst that could happen is that you'd toast the internals. Personally, I'm not one to shy away from this kind of thing: make sure that you get a new tube of heatsink compound to replace what you'll smear all over your fingers in the take apart. You can buy it at electronics shops (not sure of the relevant shop names because I don't know what coutry you're in).

Yup - I found a local computer shop that has the stuff for $3 for 3 tubes. I knew it would be cheap. :)

Take plenty of care, make sure that you're grounded and don't force anything.
Cheers,
Tim

Thanks, Tim.

BTW I found this site that will do an overnight power supply swapout:
        http://www.techrestore.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16488

I figure I'll crack it open and see if there are any loose wires or anything. If nothing looks broken, I'll do the power supply swapout - it's only $130.

Other than the power supply and the PRAM battery, I can't think of anything that would need replacing. The DVD, USB, LCD, CPU, RAM, fan, and HD all work - what else is there? - and all Apple Hardware Test tests pass. The only other things I can think of are the PRAM battery & power supply... anything else?
