'best tool for the job'...it's a "I'd rather use my craftsman wrench

That's different from "Use the tool that is right for the job, not the  
tool that has the

As far as 'ideal Swiss Army Knife' well, imo OS X comes damned close.

I can:

run OSX
run Windows in a VM
run Windows executables via wine
run Linux in a VM
run Linux executables via Macports or fink

All at the same time. (oh yes, while running a web server too.)

That's "Champion" class swiss army knifing.

Two weeks ago I was installing linux in a VM on another linux box via  
X-windows on my Mac, while loading a printer driver on a Windows  
server, through Windows running in a VM on my mac which was using my  
Macs optical drive for the CD.

At the same time.

There's a REASON MacGuyver starts with 'Mac' :-)
