sounds like your time zone is wrong...  I had the same issue but  
changing the time zone took care of it.  Click on the time up in the  
top right hand corner, select "Open Time & Date" and then make sure  
you have selected the closest city to you and it should adjust  
accordingly (after you select Update Now...).

If your clock is off every time you power off and back on, then your  
PRAM battery is most likely dead.  This is relevant to an older  
machine.  I just replaced my battery and now the time stays dead on  
and my computer doesn't think it's 1970!
