Dan You have a very patronising nature to your emails.
I did provide all the information needed and to be honest it isn't a major problem. I gave you both machine specs and how the machines were connecting to the music collection. Also I am a Mac user of ten years and before that a PC user, with great computing knowledge. I know to test anything it should be on a cold boot. I am not stupid enough to wonder why my iTunes visualiser won't work properly if I have Firefox, Photoshop and countless other software open or been opened. In any case, both machines were using the same circumstances. Maybe I should have made the connection issue a little clearer. The eMac is not in adhoc mode, it is not serving as a host in that sense. Both machines connect to my wireless router. I simply connect to the eMac as if accessing the internal drive and select the external one when connecting from the PowerBook.
