I would max out my RAM if I were you (256 MB is too little; if it's a Snow iMac, it can take two 512 MB RAM modules, but one of them has to be low profile) and get a new hard drive. It would be easiest to have it installed, but you could do it yourself if you wanted to take the case off. There might be a size limit of 128 GB it could recognize even if it was bigger, so you may want to go with an 80, 100 or 120 GB hard drive, preferably running at 7200 RPM with an eight or 16 MB buffer. I have a Snow iMac that I am prepping to be a website server now that I have a G4 Sawtooth.
