Hi,

Thanks for the many wonderful questions & answers I read on this site daily.
Now I have a problem. Why won't my new MacBook Pro Intel Duo OS 10.5.6 2.5 GHz
print through Ethernet to my working LaserWriter 16/600 PS?

I use a small office wired Ethernet network of a router, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet
switch; a few computers running OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.4.11 that share a
LaserWriter 16/600 PS also connected to the switch. They work fine and can
print to the LaserWriter 16/600 PS.

I brought my new MacBook Pro Intel Duo (early 2008) with OS 10.5.6 to the
office and added it to the network via Ethernet cable to the same switch to
print documents to the LaserWriter 16/600 PS.

I selected the LaserWriter 16/600 PS in Print & FAX preferences on the MacBook
Pro. It appears to be recognized and selected.

The Network preferences say Ethernet is connected and diagnostics say Ethernet
is working.

The MacBook Pro is connected to the internet through the switch and it can
access internet fine.

However, whenever the MacBook Pro tries to print to the LaserWriter 16/600 PS
the document just goes into print queue. When I open Print Queue it says the
LaserWriter 16/600 PS is paused.

When I tell it to Resume Printer either in the heading of the print queue
dialog box or Jobs Menu, it appears to try to do so in the header of the dialog
box where it switches from the "Play" symbol to the "Pause" symbol but the
printer icon in the LaserWriter 16/600 PS dialog box keeps a steady green dot
bearing the pause symbol and nearby it keeps saying "Printer Paused." Then the
header icon after a few seconds goes back from the "Play" to "Pause" icon.

I've tried changing the print drivers in the Print & FAX preferences dialog box
under "Options & Supplies" but the driver v2014.106 offered for each of the
Apple LaserWriter 16/600 models is the same, though I tried each of the three
printer model selections to assure the right printer. Print & FAX dialog box
says it is v4.1.

I turned off and on the printer, but it didn't make a difference. It just
printed another test sheet.

The G4 800 MHz iMac Lamp sitting next to the MacBook Pro connected to the same
switch normally has no problem printing to the printer either from itself or
from the internet, but while the MacBook Pro was connected to the switch it
wouldn't get the printer to respond.

I turned the switch off and than back on. The iMac commenced its usual fine
printing.

However, the MacBook Pro did not. I selected all its print queue items and put
them on Hold.

Then finally I was able to tell the printer to Resume and it appeared to go
into the Printer Ready mode. I selected one of the documents in the MacBook
Pro print queue to Resume. Its print queue went back to the Printer Paused
mode a few seconds later and that selected document in the print queue now is
"Stopped."

The iMac, however, still can print to the LaserWriter 16/600 PS.

I'm frustrated after two hours trying to figure this out. Any ideas how I can
get the MacBook Pro to print to the LaserWriter 16/600 PS? Thanks for any help
you share.

Mike
