There was an ISO linked in the original message for PowerPC LXDE...
You'll probably be able to find it in any community repositories, but
yeah, the LXDE website doesn't provide any PowerPC downloads
(understandable)

I had, for the longest time, been running Ubuntu 8.04 on my 233MHz
Wallstreet II right up until the DC board and casing around it broke
from a fall off the desk *Shivers*
Anyways, Ubuntu was stripped down to just the CLI and a number of
operating services. Then I'd just run Window Maker when needed.
Here some links for reading before I get started:

I never tried LXDE, I had just now heard of it in this post. I am
defiantly going to try it on my DV 400. I did see reports saying that
it was faster than xfce. but I'll have to take it for a spin first.
For the slower ones, you'll probably want to go as light as possible,
You might, if you want, just go with a window manager and customize it
to your liking by adding little bits and pieces of software to it.
Window Maker + WMDOCK + NM-applet +Thunar was a very nice combo for my
Wallstreet. Even then, applications were slow, and in fact I preferred
to just stay in the CLI, only going into GUI land if I wanted to use
Midori. everything else would be done on the CLI.
