How is the flash drive formatted?  What brand?  Most flash drives are  
in FAT32.  Some of the later SanDisk units have problems with Macs.  I  
suspect that OS 9 does not like whatever format is on the flash  
drive.  See if you can reformat it into HFS+.  That should work fine  
with both iMacs, but then it will likely not be compatible with  
Windoze PCs.
